Venetian Carved, Lacquered And Gilded Mirror – Second Half Of The 19th Century

Venetian mirror from the second half of the 19th century, entirely hand-carved, polychrome lacquered and water-gilded (gilding with bole and water). The frame is a true masterpiece of craftsmanship, featuring an intricate openwork design reminiscent of lace, with lively carved foliage weaving in and out of the structure.
The surface shows warm, textured tones, likely created using natural pigments and animal glue, following traditional methods. The color palette includes soft sky blue, earthy pink and accents of gilding.
Originally intended to frame a painting, the mirror was added later. The frame has no set orientation, allowing it to be used vertically or horizontally, or repurposed to hold a canvas.
