Object description :

"Stevenson & Hancock, Derby, Toby Jug “snuff Taker”, C.1862"
Rare and collectible English porcelain Toby Jug, “Snuff Taker”, made by Stevenson & Hancock, Derby, around 1862. This finely modelled miniature jug depicts the classic folk character taking a pinch of snuff — a familiar and humorous image from English tavern and street culture of the 19th century. These snuff taker Toby Jugs are important in Derby’s history and are valued for their charm and rarity.                                                                                                                                  Hand painted in vibrant enamels with the original removable top hat cover (chip to rim, see photos). The base is marked with the desirable King Street Derby emblem: crown, crossed swords, large D, and initials S and N - confirming authenticity and period. Dimensions: height 11 cm, width 7 cm, depth 7 cm. Condition: chip to rim of cover, no other issues. Please study the accompanying photographs carefully as they form an integral part of this description. If you have any questions, we will be happy to answer them. The item will be shipped with full tracking and insurance.
