Rare and collectible English porcelain Toby Jug,
“Snuff Taker”, made by Stevenson & Hancock, Derby, around 1862. This finely
modelled miniature jug depicts the classic folk character taking a pinch of
snuff — a familiar and humorous image from English tavern and street culture of
the 19th century. These snuff taker Toby Jugs are important in Derby’s history
and are valued for their charm and rarity.
Hand painted
in vibrant enamels with the original removable top hat cover (chip to rim, see
photos). The base is marked with the desirable King Street Derby emblem: crown,
crossed swords, large D, and initials S and N - confirming authenticity and
period.
Dimensions: height 11 cm, width 7 cm, depth 7 cm.
Condition: chip to rim of cover, no other issues.
