Royal Worcester Pair Of Sage Green Figural Salts, 1882

Artist: Royal Worcester

A rare pair of late Victorian Royal Worcester porcelain figural salts, manufactured in Worcester, England, in 1882. Modelled in the distinctive James Hadley style, the companion figures depict a fashionable eighteenth-century lady and gentleman standing beside hollowed tree trunks. Designed as both functional and decorative table wares, the open trunks served either as master salt cellars or as spill holders for wooden tapers used to light candles, lamps and pipes. Produced using moulded porcelain, careful hand finishing and multiple enamel firings, figural table wares of this quality were manufactured in comparatively limited numbers. Their combination of sculptural design and practical purpose reflects the high standards of Royal Worcester during the late Victorian period.

Both figures are decorated in muted overglaze sage green and soft ivory enamel pigments and retain authentic green printed Royal Worcester factory marks. The date code T for 1882 is present on one figure.
