African Tribal Art – Vintage Wooden Bahima Milk Vessel "ekyanzi", Uganda,
A refined example of African tribal art: a vintage wooden milk vessel known as Ekyanzi, traditionally used by the Bahima people of southwestern Uganda. Expertly carved from dense hardwood, the vessel features a rich, aged patina and a flared base for stability. The narrow neck is designed for controlled pouring and preserving fermented milk (amateekwe), a staple of Bahima pastoral life.
A hand-forged metal repair at the rim highlights the vessel’s cultural value and prolonged use — such traditional restorations are a hallmark of cherished household objects passed down through generations.
