Elegant antique Chinese scholar's brushwash carved from bamboo root, depicting peaches surrounded by leafy branches, dating from the Qing dynasty, 19th century.

Magnificently carved using the natural form of bamboo root, this refined scholar's object represents peaches of longevity, an auspicious symbol of great importance in Chinese culture. The asymmetrical organic form and the beautiful honey-brown patina testify to the sculptor's skill in transforming a natural material into an elegant object for a scholar's cabinet.

These brushwashers were part of the traditional tableware of the Chinese scholar, used for rinsing brushes in the arts of calligraphy and painting.

An authentic and decorative object of great presence.
