Antique Tibetan Buddhist Copper Holy Water Ritual Vessel, 18th–19th Century

An authentic antique Tibetan copper ritual holy-water vessel, 18th–19th century, of traditional hand-worked sheet-metal construction.

The vessel has a rounded body raised upon a spreading cylindrical foot, with a tall, slender pouring spout and an elevated flared section incorporating the central aperture for a ritual sprinkler.

The visible overlapping sections, seams and soldered joins form part of its original traditional construction. Its extensively handled surface and deep, naturally developed patina bear eloquent witness to many years of practical ceremonial use.

This is a genuine utilitarian Tibetan ritual object, made to be used and clearly employed for its intended purpose—not a modern decorative reproduction or tourist souvenir.

A closely comparable Tibetan holy-water vessel, measuring almost exactly the same height at 13.6 cm and dated 1701–1900, is preserved in the Science Museum Group Collection, formerly part of Sir Henry Wellcome’s Museum Collection, object number A161246. CLICK HERE
