Henri Olive Des Martigues – Boat Moored At The Edge Of The Pond – Oil On Panel - Signed

For once, Olive des Martigues here does not paint the sea or the port of Martigues, but a boat moored at the edge of a pond. The scene could be located on one of the many ponds that dot the Martigues region, the Etang de Berre or elsewhere.
The foreground is occupied by the shore and the black and blue boat, which contrasts with the bright green of the vegetation. On the pond, we see other boats and a few sails. In the background, the gently shaped hills stand out against the blue sky.

The work, painted on an isorel panel, is signed lower right. It is in very good, clean condition. It is offered in an oak frame dating from the 1930s, in good condition.

Henri Olive des Martigues (1898-1980) was a regionalist painter from Provence, focusing on the maritime landscape of his native land. His style is characterized by a luminous Mediterranean palette and a fast, textured execution.
