Maurice Vagh Weinmann : Large Painting "the Stream"
MauriceVaghWeinmann (1906–1990): “The Stream,” oil on panel 73x 92 cm, mounted in a beautiful Parnassian frame, 94 x 112 cm, slightly tarnished.
Presented “as is,” with a small scratch at the top of the house on the left, it would benefit from a light cleaning and a varnish that would bring outthe colors even more.
I confess a certain fondness for the Vagh Weinmanns, as they were thefirst listed painters whose works passed through my hands a few years ago…(Memories, memories!).
Of Hungarian origin, like his older brothers Elemer and Nandor.
Even though they have been somewhat forgotten since their deaths, despite having been exhibitedin the greatest galleries in both Paris and the provinces, a powerful and colorful body of work remains, bubbling with Slavic energy in the service of more French subjects (they settled in the Southwest).
Maurice was perhaps the most classical of them all, despite an expressionist approach; his fine craftsmanship as a painter nevertheless structures his canvas, as here where thediagonal of the stream winding between the houses and trees serves as a counterpoint to that of the light.
A small detail: the copper-plated jug used for drawing water is waiting upside down on one of the stakes...
Please note! Too large to be shipped via the Post Office; delivery bycarrier or Cocolis.
