Large colored lithograph, “Molière Reading His *Tartuffe* at Ninon de Lenclos’s,” image 43 × 63 cm on a sheet measuring 56 × 69 cm, large Empire-style gilded frame measuring 68 × 81 cm, molding width 6.5 cm, damage to the right edge and wear on the gilding at the bottom.
The lithograph is unevenly mounted on cardboard, with small tears, oxidation of the paper, and surface wear.
The scene, engraved after Nicolas-André Mansiau’s 1802 painting, depicts Molière standing at Ninon de Lenclos’s home, reading his play before an audience composed of numerous artists, musicians, writers, and other prominent figures of the17th century.
