Tribal Caucasian / Persian Rug – Hand-knotted – Mid-20th Century
Hand-knotted tribal rug, likely from the Caucasus or Persian tribal areas (border region between southern Caucasus and Luristan), woven around the 1950s–1970s. The central design features stylized trees and floral medallions, framed by richly patterned geometric borders.
The weave is dense and durable, with wool pile on a cotton or coarse wool foundation. The warm colors – rust red, deep blue, ivory, and ochre – are achieved with traditional vegetable dyes and display natural variations (abrash), typical of handmade pieces.
Its modest size (152 × 92 cm) makes it perfect for smaller rooms, hallways, or as a decorative wall hanging. The rug shows signs of age-appropriate wear and an old repair on the fringes, done with original warp threads.
An authentic and expressive piece, ideal for rustic, bohemian, or ethnographic-inspired interiors.
