Signed “DAUCHOT” in the lower right corner.
Gabriel Dauchot (1927-2003) is a French painter and lithographer born in the Paris region. With an expressionist tendency, he distinguished himself in particular in portraits, landscapes and still lifes. A student at the Grande Chaumière studio from the age of 14, he took part in the Salon des Moins de Trente ans and the Salon d'Automne from 1942. From 1945, he organized solo exhibitions in Paris, Switzerland and the United States. He painted in full paste figures with tightrope-like appearances, valets, newlyweds, melancholic landscapes, ironically grotesque funerals as well as still lifes with an old-fashioned or carnal touch. From the 80s, he lightened his palette and moved towards compositions where he gave free rein to his humor, creating compositions with great freedom.
