Jean Auguste Franquelin (1798–1839) was a French painter trained in the studio of Jean-Baptiste Regnault. He exhibited regularly at the Salon beginning in 1824, presenting mainly genre scenes, portraits, and historical and mythological subjects. His works are characterized by balanced composition and meticulous execution—a legacy of his neoclassical training—while leaning toward Romanticism through their sensitive and intimate touch.
