It depicts the Virgin Mary carrying the Child Jesus on her left arm. She is shown standing on a crescent, trampling the snake with her feet, and is dressed in a tunic with long, falling folds. In her right hand, she holds a rosary, while the Child Jesus holds a sphere in his left hand, a sceptre and a cross in his right hand, the sphere symbolising the world; both are haloed and crowned.
The Virgin and Child appear in the midst of the clouds, surrounded by six figures of angels.
This drawing is of particular interest because it was made in 1830 by a certain Jean Genet, a deaf-mute who must have put all the intensity of his faith into making this drawing, which must have been much more a prayer and an act of devotion to the Blessed Virgin than a simple drawing.
The frame is in used condition, with some missing stucco and small chips, and the gilding has deteriorated considerably, revealing the plate and the primer in many places.
