Historical Plate "the Duke Of Aumale," Henri d'Orléans, Sarreguemines Faience, 19th Century

A beautiful 19th-century Sarreguemines earthenware plate with a historical design; the decoration features a bust portrait of the Duke of Aumale (Henri d’Orléans, 1822–1897), depicted in a medallion above a panel decorated with the Château de Chantilly. The son of Louis Philippe, he was a military officer and statesman; in 1830, at the age of 8, he inherited the Chantilly estate and vast forests in the Aisne region from his godfather, the Prince of Condé. This estate, considered the largest in France, was valued at 66 million gold francs, with an annual income of 2 million francs. The background of the painting depicts the capture of Abd-el-Kader’s Smala on May 16, 1843, during which he served as a brigadier general. He was promoted to lieutenant general following this victory. (Source: Suresne Museum).
