*Chinese white with bluish-green glaze, Dehua kilns, Ming Dynasty *
Guanyin is represented here accompanied by two figures, male and female servants.
She rests on a lotiform base depicting a shell and other attributes of the sea, the base depicting foaming waves animated by fish, tentacles encircling the supporting column, one rising to the right of the desse to support a vase, another rising to her left to support a bird. Note the very fine bluish-green glaze, which is particularly present and visible in the “backgrounds” of the decoration, which have retained a more generous thickness of glaze.
I should point out that the porcelain is a beautiful pure white because the subtle nuances of this statuette made it very difficult to photograph; this is to confirm that the porcelain is indeed white, so any nuances that you may perceive in other shades are not real.
The bluish-green glaze is the only real colour apart from the white ‘Blanc de Chine’.
Note the old label on the underside of the base, which also corroborates the authenticity of this porcelain.
The object is in very good condition but nevertheless has a ‘hair’ that is particularly visible on the back of the statuette.
