Polychrome Wooden Sculpture Of An Angel – Alto Veneto / Trentino, 18th Century
Impressive 18th-century polychrome wooden sculpture depicting a full-figure angel, likely originating from the Alto Veneto or Trentino region. Measuring 108 cm in height and 58 cm in width, this piece is a significant example of Northern Italian Baroque sacred art.
The sculpture shows clear signs of exposure to intense heat, possibly due to a fire: the gesso surface exhibits porosity and swelling, typical of thermal alterations. The right arm, from shoulder to elbow, has been reconstructed using a fabric structure coated with gesso, an intervention that, while not original, integrates harmoniously with the rest of the piece. Despite these signs of aging, the sculpture retains a strong scenic presence and bears witness to the popular devotion and craftsmanship of the period. We ship worldwide.
