Venetian Sculptor (18th Century) - Two Figures Of Beggars.
Venetian sculptor (18th century) - Two figures of beggars.
12.5 x 7 x h 30 cm (large), 10 x 5 x h 25 cm (small).
Full figures in carved wood.
The two sculptures each depict a beggar, a figure with strongly characterised features, wrapped in tattered garments, a subject of considerable popularity in Venetian eighteenth-century woodcarving. The figures are rendered with lively carving and close attention to the expressive quality of the faces and the movement of the drapery. The natural patina of the wood, dark and even, is consistent with the age of the works.
