Superb Chinese or Indochinese silver cane knob dating from the late 19th century.

The two-part knob is very finely engraved and chiseled. The shaft features a matte background decoration of two dragons flying in the clouds guarding the sacred pearl.
The spherical top is decorated with a dragon around the rim.

The quality of the engraving and chiseling is particularly remarkable: the edges are clearly cut with a deep decoration, the shapes are undulating, the dragon's scales are numerous and each chiseled individually.

The stylized Chinese character "phuc" adorns the top of the knob, a second one is at mid-body, below the head of the "main" dragon.

The knob is hallmarked with a swan, a later French control mark.

A superb object, very finely and richly chiseled. Thanks to the quality of the work and the contrast between the shiny chiseled parts and the matte background, the light catches the motifs and highlights the dragons.
