Telek, Tuareg Arm Dagger, Hoggar Massif
This dagger is an authentic "Telek" that is to say a Tuareg arm dagger. It was collected in the Hoggar massif, around 1920.
BLADE: It is a locally crafted forged blade, with 2 edges, which are underlined by engraved longitudinal lines. The forging traces are clearly visible. Blade length = 40 cm, width near the handle = 4 cm, thickness near the handle 3 mm
GUARD: it is a very small oval iron guard.
HANDLE: It is made of wood, in the shape of a cross, riveted to the tang in its lower part.
SCABBARD: It is nicely decorated leather with two iron reinforcement bars at the bracelet level, which are original. The bracelet is held in shape by a bracelet-shaped brass plate (posterior) which is simply placed inside without being glued.
This object is part of a collection of Saharan objects collected in the first quarter of the 20th century. I will try to put other items online soon.
