Poltronova “Passiflora” Lamp – Superstudio, 1968
Italian Radical Design Icon • Table or Floor Lamp

A highly collectible and beautifully preserved Italian designer lamp, the Passiflora was created by the visionary Radical Design collective Superstudio in 1968 and produced by Poltronova around 1970. With its soft, organic form and playful sculptural presence, it is one of the most recognizable lighting objects of late 1960s Italian design.

The lamp features a cloud-shaped light body, composed of a white translucent plastic base combined with a laser-cut yellow acrylic glass top element, creating a warm, atmospheric glow. It can be used either as a table lamp or as a floor lamp, offering high versatility and visual impact.

Historical Background

Superstudio, founded in 1966 in Florence, was one of the leading forces behind the Radical Design movement. Its members – Peter Frassinelli, Alessandro Magris, Roberto Magris, Adolfo Natalini, Alessandro Poli, and Cristiano Toraldo di Francia – created influential works in architecture, interiors, and experimental design.

Their visionary approach gained international attention, leading to their inclusion in the seminal 1972 exhibition “Italy: The New Domestic Landscape” at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York.
The group remained active until 1978.

Museum Presence

The Passiflora lamp is part of important international design collections, including:

  • The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH)
