Large Icon Of The Life Of Christ, Moscow Circa 1820 / Jesus / Resurrection / Crucifixion
Important and luminous icon representing scenes from the life of Christ and dating from the beginning of the 19th century -- around 1800-1820.
Its style and great finesse allow it to be attributed to the famous Moscow school. A center of art and spirituality for centuries, it is where some of the greatest iconographers of their time worked. Their works enriched the collections of the imperial court of the Romanovs, the great aristocracy and the high clergy. They are today preserved in many museums throughout the world.
Of large dimensions -- called "imperial" -- this icon is painted on gold leaf with great attention to details in tempera (paint based on egg yolk and natural pigments).
In the upper register we find from left to right: the Resurrection, the Crucifixion and Christ Pantocrator.
In the lower register: the guardian angel (in the middle) and a selection of saints including Saint Vladimir, Saint Alexander and Saint George.
Very good condition. Minor wear and cracks.
This collector's item is sold with its certificate of authenticity and a full description of the work.
