Portrait Of Hector Berlioz By Reutlinger, Carte De Visite, 1864

Artist: Charles Reutlinger (1816-1880)
Portrait of Hector BERLIOZ (1803-1869) French composer, conductor and musical critic, representative of European romanticism> Visiting card format 5.5 x 8.7 cm circa 1864 Hector Berlioz, like all the artists of his time , took advantage of emerging photography to disseminate his portrait, his “double”, to his contemporaries. The image thus complements his writings and makes the “novel” a “myth”. Charles Reutlinger (1816-1880) was a German-French photographer. He founded a photography studio in Paris, which bears his name, specializing in the portrait of Parisian personalities and particularly in the art world.
