Eugène DELACROIX (1798-1863) Original photograph. Vintage albumen print, signed in the margin by the photographer Pierre Petit. Paris. 1862. Magnificent large-format proof depicting Delacroix in bust and profile; one of the most famous portraits of the French painter. The posing session in Pierre Petit's studio dates from 1862. We know of other portraits, in different postures, taken from this same session. Some of these are kept at the Musée d'Orsay, the Musée Carnavalet and the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
