Ambrotype Daguerreotype Portrait Of A Woman And Girl, 19th Century, Costume Photograph
Artist: école Française
An antique colored ambrotype photograph depicting a double portrait of a woman and a young girl, both seated busts, presented in a particularly decorative oval format. The image, with its soft tones, is enhanced with color, especially in the clothing and accessories, using a technique very characteristic of mid-19th-century photographic portraits. The whole has a beautiful decorative presence, reinforced by its black frame with gold trim, in the Napoleon III style. The work is distinguished by its touching atmosphere and the quality of its presentation. The young girl is particularly well-struck. Her steady gaze, almost adult in its gravity, contrasts with the softness of her light-colored dress and her bluish ribbon. She becomes the emotional focal point of the image. The mother, on the other hand, embodies a more internalized, silent presence, almost protective by her posture alone. The young girl appears in a light-colored dress with a wide blue scarf or ribbon, wearing dark gloves and holding a small, rigid accessory. The woman, dressed with sobriety and distinction, completes this interesting family or close relative portrait, very representative of the bourgeois taste of the Second Empire. Mid-19th century, circa 1855-1865. Dimensions: Frame: 26.5 x 23 cm; Image: approximately 11.5 x 8.5 cm. Condition: Used, see photos. Presents internal dust, alterations and peripheral iridescence visible around the image, minor wear and age-related marks on the frame. Also note a hole on one edge in the upper part of the frame.
