Prayer Rug With Twin Columns, Ladik, Turkey, 19th Century

Old prayer rug from the 19th century measuring 118 cm wide and 167 cm long.
The midnight blue portico-shaped mihrab is enriched with twin columns placed on a board enclosing large stylized flowers.
The columns support a cloud of clouds or are placed seven mounds supporting seven tulips.
A model almost similar in shape and colors is present at the Bardini Museum in Florence, Italy. Even if the usual colors, red, blue and gold of classic Ladiks are not present on our model and that of the Bardini museum, the presence and the shapes incline to declare these rugs as Ladik.

A mosqe lamp or sacred lamp hangs from the center of the mihrab arch, symbolizing divine light.
The border with stylized flowers is bordered on the outside by a border of geraniums typical of Turkish carpets, symbols of Turkish weavers.
The interior border symbolizes water, life, eternity. A piece of great quality, showing wear due to the devotion of its former owners.

This rug can serve as a decorative element on the floor, but in view of its great beauty and good age, it will be more its place in wall decoration.
