Early 19th Century Night Set In Overlay.

Night set including a carafe and its glass of water. The set is in crystal and opaline obtained by the so-called overlay technique. This technique consists of superimposing different layers of more or less opaque and colored hot crystal. A fine engraving allows you to play on the thicknesses and transparencies. Thus, this set presents opaque medallions in white opaline on which fine bouquets of enamelled multicolored flowers stand out. these medallions alternate with medallions in blue opaline on which a gold decoration composed of birds and flowers is placed. This set is underlined by fine gold or white opaline borders decorated with flowers or even transparent parts enhanced with golden motifs. In the 19th century, the "glass of water" services including carafe, glass, sometimes tray and sugar bowl allowed the consumption of water flavored with orange blossom known for its sedative properties. Small chip on the neck of the decanter. Carafe: 20 cm, W: 10 cm. Glass: H: 8.5 cm; W: 6.8 cm This set is remarkable for its creative technique. Probably Clichy crystal factory.
