Sculpture On Panel, Monk & Dignitary, Japan Meïji 19thc

Square format with rounded edges, here is a very pretty wooden panel, very light, nicely carved in hollow. It represents a monk unrolling a calligraphy and a dignitary, richly dressed, all represented in quality engraving. Several markings including the signature are on the back, which has been left raw by the artist. Excellent condition, no break or defect. Just at the corners, a remnant of lacquer, probably from a frame. Japanese working, dating from the end of the 19th century, Meïji period.
