Switzerland, Basel Landscape, Underglass Painting 19th Century
Artist: école Suisse
Pretty Swiss landscape, in the style of the famous engravings by Burmese or Biedermann, circa 1830, it is a distant view of the city of Basel, taken from the mountainous foothills, with a striking effect of distances. Painted on percale, glued under glass with gelatin, in a framing painted black and gold underglass. (églomisé)
Good condition, it's superb, the effect "fixed under glass" is very attractive, but there are two "mats", slight detachment in two angles, which can only be seen under certain angles of the light. (arrows on photo).
Fruit wood Frame, on back, wooden panel bearing two ink lines, date, location or signature, not very legible.
Luxurious landscape, probably disappeared for 200 years
Dimensions: painted landscape: 7cm x 13cm, frame 20.5cm x 16.5cm. see our detailed photos,
