Here is a superb example of Grand Siècle candlestick, from Louis XIV or Regency period, from cast and chased bronze, formerly silver-plated. Base is engraved, as are each of reliefs by a frieze of egg-and-dart and palmettes.
The screw thread is sound and old. Stem, cast in a two-part shell shape, is engraved of leaves and vines. Socket is also decorated with foliage,
A very decorative piece, crafted with great care.
Dimensions: 22cm x 13cm, weight: 550 grams.
Condition: Good bronze, some wear on reliefs, a small hole under ring at bottom of stem, silver plating largely worn away during its 300 years of use, but this candlestick still retains a fine appearance..
