Large French Wrought Iron Lock, Directoire Period, 42cm
Artist: Ateliers Parisiens
Beautiful 42cm palatre lock, late 18th century, iron, wrought iron and bronze, a French model, extremely rare and elegant.
The principle: on one side, asymmetric forged key with a zig-zag bit controls the mechanism, using two long forged levers. On the other, (facade), one handle, (this is the case) of bronze opens and closes a clamp, the spacing is controlled by two springs with decorated chamfers which allows the door to be released from a notched strike fixed to the wall.... Spectacular object.
Good condition, but: a nice drop-shaped iron spring cover is missing... (photo) , model is on second spring.
huge dimensions, 42cm x 20cm; weight 2.7 kg. From French Orange region.
