Pretty Bronze Mortar From Rouen, Normandy, Louis XIII Period
Artist: Abraham Le Boucher
Beautiful cast bronze mortar in two parts, small round foot, curved body decorated with a frieze of 6 cherubs in relief, playing with goats. Strong upper border, cornice, marked with filets.
As you will be able to see in our last photo, this mortar is attributed to Abraham le Boucher, master founder of Rouen, received in 1610. (document extracted from the excellent book: see last photo).
Good condition, no notable flaws, some wear and some cast iron imperfections.
