19th-century Bronze And Green Marble Mantel Clock – Allegory Of The Arts / Clio

The seated female figure is exquisitely sculpted in antique drapery, delicately flanked by a winged putto (cherub) holding a cartouche or a book. She holds in her hand a tragic theater mask and attributes evoking the classical arts and literature. The clockwork mechanism is harmoniously integrated into the sculpture’s base, which features a dark dial with gilded Roman numerals and ornate hands. The bronze base is adorned with finely chiseled friezes and foliage motifs.
