An antique bronze sculpture by the French sculptor Mathurin Moreau (1822–1912). The sculpture depicts a graceful young woman, draped in elegantly pleated fabrics, sitting on a tree stump.

In her right hand, she holds a quill, while her left hand supports a sheet of paper (or parchment). Her gaze is focused and dreamy, as if inspiration had just seized her and she were about to commit her thoughts to paper.

The bronze is coated with a warm, dark brown patina. The base is signed “Math. Moreau” and bears the stamp of the Société des Bronzes de Paris foundry.
