  DETAILED DESCRIPTION

An extremely rare and exquisite walking and ceremonial cane that belonged to a British Royal Navy officer from the second half of the 19th century.
The shaft is entirely constructed of threaded ivory sections, interspersed with refined dark tortoiseshell spacer rings. In Victorian-era maritime tradition and military protocol, the sequence and number of ivory sections and rings identified the category and rank hierarchy of the ship’s officer.

The handle is embellished with a silver ferrule and a silver cap. Hand-painted on the top of the cap is a delicate miniature depicting a daisy—a refined decorative and personal detail linked to sentimental symbolism or a memory of the mainland carried by the officer while at sea.

The object is in exceptional condition, with the original patina of age intact on both the organic materials (ivory and tortoiseshell) and the silver metal parts.
