Vintage Ship Model – Three-masted Sailing Ship (19th Century)
Description of the work: A refined and impressive model of a 19th-century three-masted sailing ship, of exceptional historical and aesthetic value. The model masterfully and accurately depicts the naval architecture of this transitional era, characterized by a slender hull with the underwater section painted in classic navy green and the superstructure in a light ivory tone.
The vessel features a rigid and complex rigging system:
- Bow (Bowsprit): Equipped with three finely shaped triangular jibs.
- Main Rig (Fore and Main Masts): Masts rigged with overlapping square sails (trevi, gabbie, pappafichi).
- Stern (Mizzen): Rigged with a gaff-top mainsail and a triangular mizzen-top sail.
The sailcloth and rigging display a charming and authentic patina of age, which attests to the ship’s era and lends the vessel a strong antique character. The piece is complemented by meticulous structural details such as the iron side anchor mounted on a chain, the railing along the deck, the central cabin’s deckhouse, and the perfectly preserved stern rudder.
The sailing ship rests on a solid and elegant base made of shaped wood.
- Stern (Mizzen): Rigged with a gaff-top mainsail and a triangular mizzen-top sail.
