Set Of 6 Porcelain Plates From The Clignancourt Manufactory, Known As “monsieur,” Circa 1785
An elegant set of six circular dinner plates with scalloped rims, made of Paris hard porcelain, from the prestigious Clignancourt Manufactory (known as “Monsieur’s,” the Count of Provence, brother of King Louis XVI).
Each piece features the famous and timeless “barbeaux” (cornflowers) design, painted in polychrome. The bowl and rim are adorned with delicate clusters of stylized cornflower bouquets and sprigs. The undulating rim is highlighted by a rich foliage frieze intertwined with cornflowers against a gold-combed background, all enhanced by an elegant fine gold line along the edge.
On the reverse, the plates bear the red iron-on-wax stamp mark, characteristic of the protection granted by the Count of Provence beginning in 1775.
A magnificent illustration of French taste and the art of living in the late 18th century, combining the freshness of the floral motif with the sumptuousness of Louis XVI-era gilding.
