Louis XV Console Table, 18th-century
Impressive Louis XV-period console table in carved wood, topped with its original marble top
Elegant French console table from the Louis XV period, remarkable for the richness of its carved decoration and the virtuosity of its scalloped lines. It features an openwork band adorned with a sumptuous rocaille design, composed of foliage scrolls, tendrils, and finely chiseled floral motifs.
The structure rests on four generously curved legs, joined by a low crossbar with openwork rocaille decoration, forming an elegant central scroll motif. The sinuous movement of the legs, accentuated by a play of moldings and sculpted foliage, lends the piece a remarkable visual lightness while maintaining a beautiful architectural presence.
It is topped with an antique red marble slab veined with white and gray, featuring molded edges and softened corners, whose warm tones harmonize particularly well with the wood’s natural patina.
With its lavish carving, elegant proportions, and rich ornamental vocabulary, this console table is a distinctive example of 18th-century French decorative art, in the Rocaille style characteristic of the reign of Louis XV.
A piece with character, ideal for a château, a prestigious residence, or a collection of antique French furniture.
