Louis XVI Coffee Table, Polylobed Shape, 18th Century

Louis XVI-style side table / hot-water bottle table in mahogany, with a polylobed top

Elegant Louis XVI-style side table, crafted from mahogany and flamed mahogany, featuring a rare and refined polylobed shape characteristic of high-quality pieces inspired by the neoclassical taste of the late 18th century.

The top is topped with a carefully inlaid veined white marble slab, framed by a finely cut openwork brass rail that adds a touch of distinction while protecting the top. The delicacy of this rail harmoniously highlights the piece’s dynamic contours.

The low-profile base perfectly follows the poly-lobed line of the tabletop. On the front, it features a central drawer adorned with an elegant brass knob. This drawer, designed to hold small everyday items, is discreetly integrated into the overall design, maintaining the balance of proportions.

The table rests on four tapered, faceted legs—typical of the Louis XVI style—topped with understated brass feet. The legs are connected by a polylobed crossbar, which exactly mirrors the design of the top tabletop and provides additional display space while reinforcing the stability of the entire piece.

The understated lines, the quality of the mahogany, the elegance of the marble, and the delicate brass trim lend this table a great decorative refinement. Its compact size allows it to fit naturally into a living room, a library, a boudoir, or as a side table next to an armchair.

This table perfectly exemplifies the Louis XVI aesthetic, where geometric precision is combined with elegant proportions and meticulous craftsmanship.

Period: late 19th–early 20th century, in the Louis XVI style.
