Pair Of Louis XV Andirons, 19th Century

A superb pair of gilded bronze andirons—decorated with musical putti—Louis XV style—19th century

An elegant and substantial pair of gilded bronze andirons, richly decorated with charming putti musicians in the 18th-century style.

This pair features a particularly refined composition, combining the grace of the childlike figures with ornamental architecture inspired by the French decorative arts.

Each andiron rests on a broad, architecturally shaped base with undulating contours, accented by a frieze of ovals and finely crafted foliage motifs.

The central section rises as an elegant pedestal adorned with volutes, floral garlands, and rich acanthus leaves.
The ensemble is crowned by an antique-style vase with two coiled handles, whose body features an alternation of smooth sections and fluting.

On either side stand two charming putti depicted in graceful and natural poses.
Half-draped, the young figures are shown seated, playing a small wind instrument, evoking the pleasures of music and rural pastimes.

The two andirons form a paired composition, with the figures arranged facing each other, which enhances the balance and harmony of the ensemble.

The quality of the figures’ modeling, the movement of the drapery, the delicacy of the curly hair, and the richness of the ornamentation attest to meticulous decorative craftsmanship.

The gilding, with its warm tones and antique patina, beautifully highlights the reliefs and gives this pair a remarkable presence.

These andirons follow in the tradition of grand French fireplace finery, combining classical inspiration with decorative whimsy.

A very beautiful and particularly decorative pair of andirons, ideal for adorning an antique fireplace in a castle, a mansion, or a home of character.
