Louis XVI mahogany linen chest – Directoire period, late 18th century.

An elegant Louis XVI mahogany chiffonnière, beautifully crafted, featuring the understated and refined design characteristic of neoclassical furniture.

The piece features three stacked drawers of equal width at the front, each framed by slightly recessed molding.
The drawer fronts are veneered with flamed and variegated mahogany, offering a beautiful depth of reddish-brown hue and a particularly decorative grain.

The drawers are adorned with gilded bronze locks and keyholes, which lock with a key, adding an elegant decorative touch to the piece.
The interior construction of the drawers reflects traditional cabinetmaking craftsmanship, notably featuring visible dovetail joints on the sides.

The chest rests on four tall, tapered legs, slightly turned and accented with molded rings at the top, ending in small straight feet. This light and elegant design accentuates the piece’s Louis XVI character.

The side panels, also made of mahogany, are simply framed by moldings and contribute to the piece’s overall aesthetic appeal, allowing it to be displayed even in the center of a room.

The upper section is particularly remarkable: it is topped by a rectangular slab of white marble veined with gray, protected by an elegant openwork gallery in bronze or gilded brass featuring a geometric design of interlaced crossbars and ovals.
The delicately openwork rail is embellished with small returns and corner ornaments, typical of the Louis XVI decorative repertoire.
