A mahogany and veneer chiffonier table with a truncated top. It rests on four tapered legs and opens with three drawers in the front, revealing a leather-lined writing surface. The top lifts in two sections supported by racks. Stamped Joseph Gengenbach dit Canabas (1715-1797) – master craftsman obtained on April 1, 1766: Of German origin, Canabas – whose real name was Joseph Gengenbach – arrived in Paris in the 1740s. Both a cabinetmaker and a joiner, he worked with both veneer and solid wood.
