Curved Louis XV Chest Of Drawers, 18th Century

Louis XV chest of drawers, curved on all sides, from the 18th century, with two drawers without a divider, made of precious wood veneer and gilded bronze.

Elegant, curved chest of drawers from the Louis XV period, dating from the 18th century, featuring two wide drawers at the front, without a crossbar.
It features a particularly harmonious silhouette, characteristic of French furniture of the period, with a curved front and sides, rounded legs, and arched feet.

The piece is entirely veneered with precious woods, predominantly rosewood, arranged in a parquet marquetry pattern known as “Cubes sans Fond,” forming a particularly refined geometric design.
The panels are framed by dark wood fillets, elegantly emphasizing the flowing lines of the front and sides.
The front, slightly domed and curved, is punctuated by two wide drawers, separated by a simple joint line, in keeping with the style of Louis XV chests of drawers without visible crossbars.
The drawers are adorned with rich gilded bronze hardware, including:

  • Two gilded bronze handles per drawer, decorated with rocaille motifs, foliage, and scrollwork.
  • Two central lock plates, with an undulating shape, also in gilded bronze.
  • A large gilded bronze panel on each of the front legs, decorated with female figures, foliage, and rocaille motifs, lending the piece a remarkable sculptural presence.
  • A gilt bronze trim on the lower front panel, consisting of a central motif of a shell and foliage, extended by rocaille scrolls.
  • Gilded bronze finials adorn the ends of the front legs.

This entire ornamentation is typical of the Louis XV decorative style, with its asymmetrical forms, shells, foliage, and rocaille motifs.

The sides, which are also curved, are veneered with the same parquet pattern, creating a beautiful continuity of design between the side panels and the front.

The chest of drawers rests on four slightly flared, arched legs, the front legs of which are adorned with gilded bronze spurs.
The overall silhouette is light and elegant, with a very beautiful balance between the width of the piece and the height of the legs.

The top is crowned with a rectangular, veined gray marble slab featuring slightly rounded corners, with a molded, overhanging edge.
This marble provides a highly decorative contrast to the warm tones of the veneer.
