Cobra—animal sculpture in patinated metal, no. 1719

A spectacular sculpture depicting a cobra rearing up, its body powerfully coiled around itself and its neck forming an elegant upward curve.

Crafted from metal with a silvery patina, the work stands out for its remarkable craftsmanship.

Crafted from metal with a silver patina, the work stands out for its remarkable craftsmanship.
The reptile’s body consists of a series of scale-shaped metal elements, assembled and layered with great precision to recreate the snake’s natural contours and movement.

The head, particularly expressive, is depicted with its mouth wide open, revealing its fangs and forked tongue.
The details of the snout, eyes, and skin are meticulously crafted, giving the animal a particularly striking presence.

The beautiful silvery patina, alternating between dark shades and metallic highlights, admirably emphasizes the contours of the scales and the sculptural character of the piece as a whole.

The work bears the signature “Gérard Bouvier” on the metal, accompanied by the number 1719.

With its unusual subject matter, highly elaborate craftsmanship, and strong decorative presence, this cobra is a particularly original piece within Gérard Bouvier’s animal-themed body of work.
