Flight, Barr & Barr Worcester Coated Dessert Plate With Coat Of Arms, Baron Hawke, Circa 1815
Rare English soft-paste porcelain dessert plate, manufactured by Flight, Barr & Barr at the Royal Porcelain Works in Worcester, circa 1815. The border, a refined interpretation of the Imari palette, combines green, pink, iron-red, and orange glazes with abundant burnished gilding, without cobalt blue.
The center bears the coat of arms of the Barons Hawke: a falcon rising from ermine, charged with a gold fleur-de-lis, with the motto “STRIKE” beneath a baronial crown. This plate was part of an aristocratic table service commissioned for Edward Hawke-Harvey, 3rd Baron Hawke.
The reverse bears both the crowned FBB mark in low relief and the circular purple-printed mark of Flight, Barr & Barr, indicating the Royal Porcelain Works in Worcester as well as the London store on Coventry Street.
Dimensions: weight 497 g; diameter 23.6 cm; height 2.8 cm.
Condition: excellent vintage condition, with only slight wear to the gilding. The glazes and the burnished gold decoration are exceptionally well preserved.
