Standing Man, Louis XIII, Late 17th-century Cabinet, Double-body Sideboard (diminutive)
A beautiful cabinet made of various types of wood, featuring two large drawers and three doors on the front.
This piece consists of two stacked sections.
The lower section rests on two square-section legs at the back and two ball-shaped legs at the front, all topped by a wide baseboard. It opens with two doors decorated with a lovely small-scale diamond-point bossage. A central mullion separates them and is integral to the frame.
The upper section, meanwhile, is unusual: it opens with a single door—also carved with diamond-point motifs—and is offset to the right. To its left is a panel adorned with three diamond-point squares.
The sides are carved with panels featuring rounded edges on both sides.
Our piece shows signs of wear and repairs; the rear legs have been shortened, and one features a wooden reinforcement plate; the ball feet have been replaced, as has the rear crossbar at the back. (see photos).
This piece was made in the late 17th–early 18th century and combines the Louis XIII and Louis XIV styles.
Note the exceptionally thick moldings and the quality of the wood used, particularly for the back panels.
Dimensions:
Base height: 117 cm
Top height: 99 cm
Total height: 216 cm
Depth at the baseboard: 62 cm
Width at the baseboard: 118 cm
