Saber Of The Mounted Grenadiers Of The Imperial Guard
Sabre of the Mounted Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard.
Three-pronged guard featuring the grenade characteristic of this model. Beautifully cut pommel with a short tail. Black leather grip inlaid with a double twist of brass wire forming chevron patterns. The top of the guard bears the Versailles bar and the hallmark. Palmette-shaped crossguard. It bears traces of a period repair carried out according to best practices.
Montmorency-style blade, with a single hollow edge and fuller, and a slight curve. Hallmarks at the heel. The engraving on the back of the blade is largely illegible.
Brass scabbard of the third type with two slits. The lower slit has been repaired with splints riveted to the fittings for reinforcement. Domed lugs. Rounded lug pins. Lug ringsand asymmetrical steel tip.
This weapon, which was issued to the most prestigious regiment of the Imperial Guard during the First Empire, is in very good working condition. The blade is intact along its entire length with no pits. The scabbard bears the marks of combat and long journeys to the four corners of Europe.
