Egidius Federle 1810–1876...lively Landscape At Twilight Near A Swiss Lake

A rare and interesting mid-19th-century painting depicting a lively lakeside landscape at twilight...The location is not specified, but a quick online search suggests it may be Lake Lucerne in Switzerland...The work is signed in the lower left corner by the German artist EGIDIUS FEDERLE(1810–1876) : He was active in the mid-19th century and distinguished himself by primarily depicting natural landscapes, in the region of Neuchâtel and on the shores of Lake Constance..
Note: this artist’s career unfolded primarily in Switzerland since he settled at Laufen Castle in 1833: There, he studied at Bleuler’s painting school while residing at Schloss Laufen, a castle overlooking the famous Rhine Falls in Switzerland. He spent many years there creating highly detailed landscape views, often intended for publication in books...
His oil paintings are very rare on the market, as auction result websites list only gouaches or watercolors, some of which fetch very high prices : just recently, in September 2026, one of his gouaches sold for 5,000 euros, setting a record for this artist...Previously, his highest sale price of 2,750 euros was achieved in 2021, also for a gouache—see the last photo.
