Russian Silver Candy Bowl. Erik August Kollin. Saint Petersburg, 1887
An elegant Russian silver candy dish, resting on a tall, contoured pedestal and featuring a movable arched handle, crafted in Saint Petersburg in 1887 by Erik August Kollin, one of the leading master craftsmen associated with the House of Carl Fabergé. The piece is distinguished by the purity of its lines and the refined simplicity of its decoration, characteristics of the St. Petersburg school of silversmithing in the second half of the 19th century.
The oval-shaped bowl, with a mirror-polished interior, is surrounded by a wide rim finely engraved with a chisel. The decoration consists of symmetrical floral garlands and stylized plant motifs, complemented by geometric interlacing reminiscent of Pan-Slavic ornamentation. The rim is accented by a row of pearls. The movable handle, adorned with spherical elements and a central ring, lends the piece a ceremonial character while retaining its utilitarian function.
The object demonstrates a high level of craftsmanship: the precision of the engraving, the meticulous fit of the handle, and the harmonious proportions of the base reflect the expertise of an experienced workshop associated with the Fabergé circle.
