Mario Buccellati (1891-1965) was an Italian silversmith born in Ancona, in the Marche region. Shortly after his father's death, his family moved to Milan, where Mario apprenticed with the silversmiths Beltrami & Besnati. After the First World War, he took over their business and opened his first shop on Via Santa Margherita, located in the heart of the Lombard capital. He quickly became known for the refinement of his creations, working with subtle patterns of lace, tulle, and honeycomb. Among his most loyal clients was the writer Gabriele D'Annunzio, who gifted Buccellati items to both his close friends and his numerous mistresses. As his success continued to grow, Mario, with the help of his brothers, opened two more boutiques, one in Rome in 1925 and the other in Florence in 1929. After the Second World War, several of his sons joined the company and contributed to the brand's expansion both in Italy and internationally. Following his death, his son Gianmaria took over the reins of the company and perpetuated his expertise. Still active today and remaining in the hands of the same family for over a century, the Buccellati company continues to radiate Italian elegance throughout the world through creations that blend tradition and modernity.
