Réaumur Barometer-thermometer, 18th Century
A medallion-shaped barometer-thermometer made of gilded wood, molded and carved. It is topped by a pediment decorated with two birds, foliage motifs, and flowers. The dial features a mercury thermometer, a pointer, and various meteorological markings.
The Réaumur scale is an old temperature scale developed in 1731 by the French physicist René-Antoine Ferchault de Réaumur.
Some wear and slight fading on the dial.
Slight wear on the frame.
